A clear bright beacon in the jazz music scene, or any music scene for that matter. Run, walk, drive, fly to the nearest city that she is playing to hear this phenomenon in person. Esperanza Spalding in a rare package of creativity, fine vocals, skilled musician and unbelievable composer. She is even better live. I listen to this incessantly and love vocals like "I Know You Know" and "She Got to You" but also pure instrumentals. She is a legend in the making.
"Holy crap." That was my verbal reaction after listening mere seconds to the Amazon samples of Esperanza. I've been listening to the CD for the past couple of days now, and that feeling of awe has only deepened - I am blown away. Aside from the impeccable artistry, there are some serious good vibes flowing from her voice. Love it.
This album is killer. Go out and buy it. I recommend it highly.
